The Pucking Wrong Rookie by C.R. Jane – Audiobook Review
Characters:
FMC Sloane Calloway
MMC Logan York
Subgeneres, Tropes, Microtropes, etc: dark romance, hockey romance, obsessive mmc, sex worker FMC, found family, he takes notes, group text supremacy, (does Lincoln Daniels worship count as a microtrope or genre or SOMETHING?)
TL;DR: Man obsessed falls for rival hockey player’s girlfriend/escort; blows a ton of money and engages in some morally grey actions to make her his (but like, with good intentions?).
My Thoughts:
I am obsessed with the Circle of Trust and absolutely unhinged love for their girls and Logan was no exception. We start off with Sloane’s backstory which was pretty heavy (if you have read the other books in this series, this tracks, but definitely check the TWs!) and I felt for her. From there, we don’t dwell too long on the heavy and we get into our meet-cute and the subsequent unraveling of our MMC. We love a man obsessed so I was IN.
Although IRL red flags would be waving hardcore, I think this was probably the least extreme of all the guys in the series so far. Even though Logan’s a rookie, he still is willing to drop any amount of money (even when he’s gotta dip into the circle of trusts’ bank accounts) to keep his girl safe. On the flip side, Sloane has been THROUGH IT and watching her learn to be loved for her is really touching. Strong FMCs come in all shapes and sizes and her journey to finding the strength to stand up for herself and learn to be loved by her man AND her friends speaks to any of us who have felt less than enough at times.
There were a ton of cameos from the previous couples in the series and I loved watching the girls take Sloane under their wing. Also, the amount of grandmas in this very spicy series is underrated and I live for it. Deffo need a chapter from one of the grannies’ POVs one day. 😂
Overall, I’d give it a (not at all surprising) 5/5!
